Which? report into choice in health
Choose and Book is a national service that will, for the first time, combine electronic booking and a choice of time, date and place for first outpatient appointment. By the end of 2005 it will be available to all patients in England requiring elective care (over 10 million each year), according to the NHS Choose and Book Website.
But the consumer organization Which? has published a study into patient choice, in which it is said that: “People cannot make choices without relevant, accessible and timely information and support. Some information that consumers want and need to make informed choices about healthcare is not available, is poorly distributed or gives insufficient detail. Some consumers also have less access to information than others, or have additional or more specialised information needs.”
