Money and Meaningful Use

“Ever since the HITECH provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act were introduced on February 17, 2009, even casual observers of the industry have been waiting to see how “meaningful use” would ultimately be defined. That’s because the financial incentives created for providers in HITECH would be triggered not by simply implementing certified electronic health records (EHR) applications (although products utilized by providers must be “certified”, another undefined item as of this writing), but providers have to prove that they are actually using the technology to improve quality of care and patient safety, and reducing costs.”
