Regional HIEs just as meaningful to healthcare IT

“As we all anxiously await the final definition of “meaningful use” of electronic health records, I am surprised to see so little discussion about ownership of patient data, responsibility for maintaining that data and the meaningful exchange of health information.
On June 16, the Health IT Policy Committee, an HHS advisory group, released a draft of the definition of meaningful use. That draft included many ambitious yet admirable goals that hospitals and physician offices would need to meet in order to qualify for increased payments through the CMS over the next five years.”
