ICD-10 Is Finally Here! (Well, Almost)

“I have been reading and writing for years about the how and why of it without any certainty about the when of it. Finally, I think we have an answer.
On Aug. 18, 2008, the Department of Health and Human Services announced the proposal of a regulation that would replace the outdated coding system known as ICD-9-CM, the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification. The final rule was posted on Jan. 16 and calls for a switchover to the next generation of codes, ICD-10-CM, to take effect on Oct. 1, 2013.”
