The Barrier to Adoption of EMR is not a Shortage of Technology

“Pervasive computing is not as distant as you may think. 30+ years ago NASA astronaut’s vital signs were already being monitored using telehealth technologies. Many technologies are advanced well beyond the ability to apply them to current problems.
One of the challenges for physicians is the integration of computers into the clinical encounter. Many physicians become quite adept at using a keyboard, templates, short-cuts, speech recognition and achieve high levels of efficiency using an EMR. However, for many it remains a challenge.”
