“As Editorial Director Peggy Smedley pointed out in her editorial [It’s Not About the Phones, Sept./Oct., 2009] the national cellular carriers are “Getting serious about the M2M space for the first time.” That’s good news. In this column I’ll be looking at an innovative application that’s been developed by a vendor that markets communications kits to carriers. That’s very unusual news in the space.
The vendor is Alcatel-Lucent (A-L), www.alcatel.lucent.com, Paris, France, an international heavyweight in the telecommunications space, which is humongous, so why play in a much smaller sandbox? The glib answer is the fact it doesn’t recognize the development as being M2M, which is another topic that the magazine has covered in the recent past. Many companies who are obviously in the M2M space don’t use the term.”
