“There is no gain saying that the nation’s healthcare sector since independence has been plagued with the challenge of achieving the delivery of quality healthcare to the majority of its populace. These are evident in the state of inadequate infrastructure and lack of basic amenities some healthcare institutions in the country are confronted with.

Strom BL et al, Arch Intern Med, 170(17)
Background
The effectiveness of computerized physician order entry (CPOE) systems has been modest, largely because clinicians frequently override electronic alerts.
Methods
To evaluate the effectiveness of a nearly “hard stop” CPOE prescribing alert intended to reduce concomitant orders for warfarin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, a randomized clinical trial was conducted at 2 academic medical centers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A total of 1981 clinicians were assigned to either an intervention group receiving a nearly hard stop alert or a control group receiving the standard practice. The study duration was August 9, 2006, through February 13, 2007.

“According to the United Nations Foundation, there are about 5 billion mobile-device subscribers worldwide. Two-thirds of those are in low- and middle-income countries, many of whose citizens lack easy access to health care and must travel great distances — often hundreds of miles — to the nearest medical clinic.”

Objective
To engage a group of people with relevant lived experience in the development of a text-messaging intervention to reduce repetition of self-harm.
Background
Contact-based interventions, such as follow-up letters, postcards and telephone calls, have shown potential to reduce repetition of self-harm in those who present at Accident and Emergency departments. Text messaging offers a low-cost alternative that has not been tested. We set out to develop a text-based intervention. The process of intervention development is rarely reported and little is known about the impact of service user involvement on intervention design.

Belden CM, Proeschold-Bell RJ. Southern Medical Journal, 2010
Background:
The electronic exchange of health records has been a notable topic in recent years in the effort to improve the quality of healthcare delivery and reduce administrative burden. Interviews and documents from stakeholders in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) care, and HIV information technology were collected between November 2004 through March 2005 to conduct a qualitative policy analysis on the adoption of an electronic health record (EHR) system among HIV care providers in North Carolina and South Carolina.
