Clinical Value: “Meaningful Use” in Canada

e”Those of you that follow eHealth are aware that in the United States, through the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, there are incentive payments available to eligible health care providers when they demonstrate meaningful use of electronic health records. The meaningful use criteria are designed to evolve over time and also form the basis for a new vendor certification program.
In Canada, we also have an opportunity to promote the effective use of electronic medical record (EMR) software by physicians to achieve clinical value. As a result of a 2010 investment from the federal government, Infoway is able to offer a new program called EMR & Integration. The program objectives are to increase the number of clinicians using EMR systems and to accelerate the enhancement of EMR solutions to meet advanced privacy, security and interoperability targets.”
