Content of text messaging immunization reminders: What low-income parents want to know

Ahlers-Schmidt CR et al, Patient Education and Counseling, 2010

OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this project was to gather preliminary data on preferred content for text reminders sent to low-income parents.

METHODS:
A brief, IRB-approved survey was administered to 200 consecutive English-speaking parents of children under 6 years old at a Pediatric Residency clinic. Because text messages can hold only limited content, parents were given three example texts ranging from very basic to very specific information and asked to select the information they would wish to receive.

Building consensus about eHealth in Slovene primary health care: Delphi study

Iljaž RJ et al, BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making, 11

BACKGROUND
Slovenia’s national eHealth strategy aims to develop an efficient, flexible and modern health care informatics framework that would be comparable to the most successful EU countries. To achieve this goal, the gap between availability and usage of information and communication technology by primary care physicians needs to be reduced. As recent efforts show, consensus on information and communication technology purpose and usage in primary care needs to be established before any national information and communication technology solutions are developed. The aim of this study was to identify the most appropriate measures in implementation of Slovene national eHealth strategy and to suggest an appropriate model for success by using the three round Delphi study.

Liquid data and the health information economy: Is 2011 finally the year?

Leonard Kish, opensource.com

“What a difference three years makes. It seems quaint now that in the 2008 NEJM there were concerns raised about the flow of health information onto the web. Back then there was but a faint trickle of what could be entered, mostly by hand, and accessed on the web.

Telemonitoring in patients with heart failure, the TEHAF study: Study protocol of an ongoing prospective randomised trial

Boyne JJJ et al, International Journal of Nursing Studies, 48(1)

BACKGROUND
As the prevalence of heart failure (HF) rises sharply, the costs related to the care of these patients increases in parallel. Considering the already limited resources and manpower, in the future the demand for care may exceed the supply. Therefore, health care systems are encouraged to develop innovative strategies to deal with the burden of HF to improve the quality of care in order to medical outcomes and patients’ quality of life. For that reason new management systems – such as telemonitoring – have to be explored.

OBJECTIVES
This paper outlines the study protocol of a tailor-made telemonitoring program in ambulant patients with HF.

Seto E et al, J Med Internet Res, 12(4)

However, little is known about whether patients and their health care providers are willing and able to use this technology.

OBJECTIVE
The objective of our study was to assess the attitudes of heart failure patients and their health care providers from a heart function clinic in a large urban teaching hospital toward the use of mobile phone-based remote monitoring.

EHRs Meet Pharma’s Need for Post-Approval Research

Hal Amens, EHR Bloggers

“Traditional pharmaceutical research for regulatory approval looks like this:
Test panel -> Test -> Analyze -> Yes or No
This is a limited test to support approval of a new medication based on demonstrated safety and effectiveness. It supports a yes or no by the Food and Drug Administration based on the evidence that can be derived from a relatively small sized sample.
