Carl Natale, ICD10 Watch

“Hopefully I have persuaded you that the change from ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 codes is big. But it may surprise you to learn it may be less intimidating than you think.
For example, you’re not going to have to be responsible for remembering thousands of ICD-10 codes. Your practice tends to deal with a subset of the possible diagnoses.

EPD-perikelen

Sjaak Nouwt, KNMG

“Over de perikelen rond het Elektronisch Patiënten Dossier (EPD) blijf ik me verwonderen. Zo was daar de opmerkelijke uitspraak van een kritisch Kamerlid tijdens een debat over het EPD: “Zelf wil ik niet in de landelijke registratie. Als ik bij de huisarts kom, vraagt die mij heel simpel: mag ik de apotheek het receptje mailen of wilt u het zelf brengen? Op dat moment geef ik toestemming; zo kan het ook.”

Using Enterprise HIE to Move Clinical Information in an ACO

David Hastoglis, Healthcare IT Solutions

“An Enterprise HIE is defined as the mobilization of healthcare information electronically across organizations. The Enterprise HIE can be used to move information within a region, community or hospital system. As such, the Enterprise HIE system is a great answer to problems found when forming an ACO. HIE provides the capability to electronically move clinical information among disparate health care information systems while maintaining the meaning of the information being exchanged. A HIE can also assist public health authorities in the analysis of the health of the population, which aids the cost cutting goals of accountable care. Ultimately, the goal of an HIE is to facilitate access to and retrieval of clinical data.”

It Seems SNOMED CT Has A Few Issues That Need to Be Addressed. Right Now It Is Apparently Broken And Needs to Be Fixed!

David More, Australian Health Information Technology

“I suggest anyone who is interested in the area read the whole paper carefully and then e-mail NEHTA (terminologies@nehta.gov.au) asking them just when the work recommended here will be undertaken and finalised. A decision to deploy SNOMED CT was made by NEHTA about 4 years ago and the very limited use so far also suggests there are some significant implementation problems.
