“In case you missed it, the three groups have done a study on what is holding back widespread adoption of telemedicine for emergency and critical care. The two major problems are “administrative burdens and limits on reimbursement.” Non-factors, according to Dr. Demaerschalk, were the technology, buy-in from hospital administrators and people’s feelings about telemedical visits. Their study will appear in the January/February issue of Telemedicine and e-Health. The researchers applauded recent moves by CMS to loosen the privileging and credentialing for telemedicine providers, and they enouraged the payors, both government and private, to reimburse for telemedicine services at the same rate as in-person visits.”
