Supercomputer ‘Watson’ Tries Hand at Medicine

“IBM’s supercomputer Watson — the formidable Jeopardy! contestant who beat two humans by answering trivia questions at record speed — may be able to apply the same technology in a clinical setting and arrive at a diagnosis faster than a doctor can.
“It’s a bit like House, but for real,” said Nick van Terheyden, MD, chief medical information officer for speech technology company Nuance Communications, during a presentation at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference here.”
