“Whereas Stage 1 Meaningful Use placed on high premium on data capture, Stage 2 takes aim at moving this protected health information (PHI) between healthcare organizations and providers in a meaningful way. A significant part of this upcoming challenge of health information exchange (HIE) centers on the ability to access and move data more smoothly by improving interoperability and data liquidity.
“The reality is that it’s still hard to get information out of the electronic silos,” explains Bob Robke, Vice President of Community Solutions at Cerner Corporation. “We’re all trying to get information out, and we’re hoping that it’s easier as time goes by.”
