Heart groups develop standard definitions, EHR data elements

“In an effort to improve communication between medical professionals, the American College of Cardiology Foundation and American Heart Association have developed a set of standardized cardiology definitions and data elements aimed at improving research and promoting “the ubiquitous use” of electronic health records.
The “2013 ACCF/AHA Key Elements and Data Definitions for Measuring the Clinical Management and Outcomes of Patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes and Coronary Artery Disease” are posted on the Journal of the American College of Cardiology website. The elements and definitions are contained in a report stating that their “ultimate purpose” is to foster “optimal cardiovascular care and disease prevention and building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.”
