If You Think A Successful EMR Transition Is All About the Data, Think Again. It’s All About the Docs.

Michelle Paster, Iron Mountain

“Nearly 54% of hospital executives cite physician adoption of EMRs to be their greatest challenge in meeting meaningful use.
Are we surprised? The hybrid environment is complex – and did I mention costly? Physicians are struggling to treat patients with records in both paper and electronic formats, in an environment where they availability and completeness of the record is constantly in question. Is the electronic record complete? If not, will I be able to locate the corresponding paper record quickly?

Hospitals Slow To Convert Paper Records, And May Not Know How To Manage Them

Katherine Rourke, EMR and EHR

“Anyone who’s been around the HIT block a few times knows that the conversion from paper to digital records is going to be much uglier than the public thinks. This new study from vendor Iron Mountain, however, offers some details that surprised even a cynic like myself.
The study, which surveyed 200 health information pros, asked them how they were doing with scanning paper medical records and how they expected to use the paper archives in the future.”

The Electronic Medical Record
