EHR technology must be standardized

Maria Chappelle-Nadal, Joplin Independent

“Throughout all of the debates and disagreements associated with healthcare reform, one idea is universal throughout the political field – each side wants to improve the quality of medicine and decrease the associated costs. Missouri is no different. One way to improve the quality of medicine is through new technology, such as electronic health records (EHR). Already in Missouri, the use of EHR is becoming more widespread through the Missouri Office of Health Information Technology (MO-HITECH) initiative.

The Role of HIE in Building and Realizing the Potential of ACOs Discussed at Massachusetts Health Data Consortium Meeting

Steve, EMR Daily News

“The theme of Mr. Tempesco’s presentation was that, while numerous forms of organizational structures have attempted to create value from health data exchange, including Community Health Information Organizations and Regional Health Information Organizations, ACOs may in fact be the model that will finally cause the financial need for clinical data exchange that has eluded healthcare delivery for decades.

Adoption of the iPad is Transforming the Healthcare Landscape

Marty Briggs, Software Advice

“There has been a steady increase in electronic health record (EHR) software adoption by physicians and hospitals. The value-add is tremendous, and with the government incentives now in place, this growth is a no-brainer. Google+ Shines the Light on the Value of Data Portability

Vince Kuraitis, e-CareManagement

“It’s understandable that a healthcare delivery system would have a mindset and business objective to keep referrals within its network of care providers. Businesses have a right and an obligation to try to hang on to their customers.
It’s a different issue whether closed or walled garden HIT is an acceptable means toward that end.

P. S. Ramkumar, ITU

“Health care is one of the most important dependencies for economic sustainability and growth of a country. Guest Blog: Why Google, Apple & Microsoft will win the EMR battle

Paul Roemer, ICMCC

“In the next few years, brick and mortar, immobile physician-centric EMRs and EHRs—those large EHR systems implemented by healthcare providers residing on large systems will be supplanted by portable patient-centric EMRs residing on a next generation of super smart devices—we call them smart phones today. The limited functionality of today’s Personal Health Records (PHRs) will be replaced by these portable patient-centric EMRs; EMRs that are cloud-based and accessed through super functional next generation smart devices—the grandchildren of the iPhone and the Droid. Why do I think that is the case? Please keep reading.

Top 10 Things to Consider When Choosing a PHR

John Moore, Chilmark Research

“At some point, hopefully in the not so distant future, physicians, clinics and hospitals will reach for the ARRA/HITECH Act carrot, adopt a certified EHR and demonstrate meaningful use.
